Atlantic Enterprises Limited Lifetime Warranty
Atlantic Enterprises warrants that our rack and pinion steering units are free from defects in materials and workmanship in normal use and service for the life of the vehicle it was installed on. Atlantic Enterprises extends this warranty to the owner of the vehicle, provided that the ownership of the vehicle has not changed since the installation of the unit.
Should one of our rack and pinion units fail during normal use, as described above, return the failed unit with its proof of purchase for a free replacement unit. Atlantic Enterprises will have no obligation to pay or reimburse the owner of the vehicle for the cost of removing and returning the failed unit or installing the replacement unit.
This warranty does not apply to units which have been altered, modified, misused, improperly installed, contaminated with dirt or other contaminates, or used in applications other than recommended in our catalog.
WARNING
PROTECT THE INSTALLATION AND WARRANTY OF
ALL RACK AND PINION STEERING UNITS.
FLUSH THE SYSTEM
Refer to owners manual or manufacture's specifications to determine the proper fluid to be used in the power steering system and the rack and pinion unit. Use only recommended fluids.
Other steering components may retain residue from the old system and contaminate the new rack immediately, possibly voiding the warranty.
A leading cause of malfunctioning units is the hose residue in the system. Hoses don't just "up and break," they deteriorate - they rot - they break down from the "inside out". While they are breaking down - rotting away - they flake off bits and pieces of rubber residue, passing them into the system to plug up or gum up the valves and orifices in the rack and pinion unit.
CHECK ALL POWER STEERING HOSES
Since they deteriorate from the "inside out" , it is sometimes hard to tell if they are bad just by looking. If the hoses feel stiff, hard or spongy - replace all hoses in the system. Here's why: The hoses are made from similar compounds. If one hose is rotten and/or bad, it's a sure sign that all are probably bad.
HOW TO FLUSH A SYSTEM
1.With the rack and pinion hoses disconnected, place the outlet hose from the power steering pump into a waste container.
2.Fill the pump reservoir with fresh fluid - start engine - continue filling with fresh fluid unit the fluid coming from the pump outlet is running clean.
DO NOT RUN THE PUMP DRY (without fluid).
3. Reconnect the lines to the rack, fill the power steering reservoir with fluid to the correct level. Most systems are self bleeding. A few turns left to right will remove any air in the system. NOTE, some Ford pumps are difficult to bleed all the air out of and the result is a growling type noise. Make sure all fittings are airtight by loosening slightly and re-tightening. In extreme cases it may be necessary to use a vacuum pump to bleed the system.
NOTE; There are POWER STEERING FILTERS available on the market today. We highly recommend this type of filter to help prevent contamination in the complete steering system, helping to prolong its life.
THIS FILTER IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR THE PROPER FLUSHING OF THE SYSTEM.
